Accusations of Defamation and maneuvering in High-Profile case
A complex legal battle is unfolding in Surakarta, Indonesia, stemming from a lawsuit concerning the diploma of Indonesia’s seventh president, Joko Widodo (Jokowi). Muhammad Taufiq,a lawyer from Solo,is facing a complaint of hate speech
filed by fellow lawyer Asri Purwanti. Purwanti alleges that Taufiq engaged in actions that defamed her character through social media posts and YouTube videos.
Purwanti’s complaint extends beyond Taufiq, also implicating two other lawyers, identified only by their initials ZM and ADP, as well as several social media accounts. she claims Taufiq accused her of maneuvering
with both Jokowi and the police, suggesting improper influence in the ongoing legal proceedings.
He accused me of a maneuver with Mr. Jokowi, maneuvering with the police.
Asri Purwanti, Surakarta Mapolresta, May 14, 2025
The Jokowi Diploma Case: A Tangled Web of Legal Actions
The dispute is further complicated by a prior report filed by Purwanti against Zaenal Mustofa, one of Taufiq’s lawyers in the Jokowi diploma case.Purwanti accused Mustofa of falsifying lecture documents, leading to his designation as a suspect by the Sukoharjo District Police. This progress, she believes, forced Mustofa to resign from the Jokowi diploma case, potentially angering Taufiq.
Purwanti finds the timing of Taufiq’s alleged defamation suspicious, noting that her report against Mustofa dates back several years. This is strange. I have reported Zaenal’s case for many years (ago). I have received SPDP (notification of the investigation) as 2023,
she stated, implying a retaliatory motive behind Taufiq’s actions.
Taufiq’s Defense: Claims of Unfamiliarity and Confusion
In response to the allegations,Taufiq claims to have no personal acquaintance with Purwanti and expresses confusion regarding the basis of her complaint. I also don’t understand what reported about,
Taufiq stated when contacted for comment, suggesting a lack of awareness regarding the alleged defamatory content.
Police Investigation Underway: Focus on ITE Law and Digital Evidence
The Surakarta Police are actively investigating Purwanti’s complaint, focusing on potential violations of Indonesia’s Information and Electronic Transactions (ITE) Law, which governs online conduct. According to AKP Prastiyo Triwibowo, head of Criminal Investigation at the Surakarta Police, the investigation will involve gathering digital evidence and potentially consulting with experts to assess the validity of the claims.
As this media is social media, so we handle using the ITE Law,
AKP Prastiyo Triwibowo stated, emphasizing the digital nature of the alleged offence.
The police will also verify the authenticity of the social media accounts involved to ensure they belong to the individuals named in the complaint. This step is crucial in establishing a direct link between the alleged defamatory content and the accused parties.
