Job Market Responds To Raising The Minimum…

O The Government’s program maintains the target that had been put forward by the AD during the electoral campaign, promising to raise the minimum wage to 1,000 euros at the end of the legislature, in 2028, with increases based on inflation and productivity gains.

Interviewed today on RTP1, Miranda Sarmento was asked whether this target would be at risk if inflation and productivity did not support the rise to that value by 2028.

In his response, the Minister of Finance mentioned that the alignment with inflation and productivity indicators is from a long-term perspective, with the 1,000 euros level being in line with the Government’s forecasts.

“What we say is that preferably the evolution of the minimum wage over time – and I’m talking about the long term – should follow productivity and inflation, but given the current conditions of the labor market, as of today, we have the commitment to put it at 1,000 euros in 2028, which is in line with our forecasts”said the minister.
