The jury’s report emphasized the perceived oversight in not having previously recognized the series, stating that the comedic creations of Michiel Romeyn, Kees Prins, and Herman Koch continue to resonate within contemporary Dutch culture. The show’s influence can still be seen in modern comedy, demonstrating its lasting legacy.

Rounding out the nominations is the documentary series To Assure from Omroep BNNVARA. This series follows young MBO (secondary vocational education) students as they prepare for careers in healthcare. The program offers a glimpse into the challenges and rewards of entering this vital profession, particularly relevant given the ongoing shortages of healthcare workers across Europe. A recent report by the World Health Organization indicates a projected shortfall of 10 million healthcare workers globally by 2030,underscoring the need to support and encourage the next generation of healthcare professionals.

Special Mention: sunny Bergman’s Exploration of Rape Myths

The jury also gave a special mention to Sunny Bergman for her VPRO documentary, Blue balls and other rape myths. Bergman’s work consistently addresses the oppression of women, and in Blue Balls, she confronts the pervasive issue of rape, exposing the widespread ignorance surrounding it and the alarmingly low rates of conviction for perpetrators. This documentary is part of a larger conversation about sexual violence, which, according to Amnesty International, affects one in three women worldwide.

The Silver Nipkow Disc, first awarded in 1961, is judged by a panel of television critics and media journalists. The winners of both the Zilveren Nipkow disc and the Silver Travel Microphone 2025 will be announced on Thursday,June 12th,marking a significant moment in Dutch television.
