[위키트리 광주전남취재본부 노해섭 기자] Jindo-gun operates healthy living practice programs such as Arirang gymnastics classes and Singsing singing classes from February to December to support local seniors’ healthy retirement lives.
Arirang Gymnastics Class is a daily gymnastics program consisting of simple stretching, muscle-strengthening movements, and joint mobilization exercises, and its main purpose is to maintain the strength of the elderly and improve physical functions such as preventing falls. Professional instructors visit senior centers in 69 villages once a week to conduct classes.
Sing Sing Singing Class was designed to help seniors live a healthy life in retirement by stabilizing their minds (emotion) and promoting social interactions through music. Professional instructors visit 31 villages twice a month to conduct classes.
In addition, we plan to provide integrated education on healthy lifestyle practices such as smoking cessation, drinking moderation, and oral and nutritional management in old age to help local residents enjoy a healthier life.
A Jindo-gun official said, “We hope that seniors will regain vitality in their daily lives through participation in the program, and that the senior center will become a place for health and communication beyond a simple leisure space.” He added, “We will continue to expand customized health promotion programs for residents as the first step toward ‘Jindo, a good place to live.’”
