Jhansi: Suspicions Rise as Child Illustration Points to Likely Murder of Mother

Jhansi: In a disturbing turn of events in Jhansi, Uttar Pradesh, a young girl’s illustration has cast doubt on the official suicide ruling of her mother’s death. The incident, uncovered in Panchavati Shiv Parivar Colony under Kotwali area, has sparked an investigation, suggesting a possible murder case rather than accidental suicide.

The Untimely Death of Sonali Budholia

The death of 27-year-old Sonali Budholia came to light when her in-laws informed her family that she had died by suicide. However, her 4-year-old daughter, Darshita, presented a sketch alongside her statement, painting a different picture of events. Darshita accused her father, Sandeep Budholia, a medical representative, of assaulting and murdering her mother.

“Papa assaulted and killed mummy. He then said ‘die if you want to’. He hanged her body and hit her head with a stone. Later, he brought down the body and dumped it inside a sack,” Darshita reportedly told reporters, revealing the likely real cause of her mother’s death through her artwork.

Abuse Allegations Revealed

The child’s account further detailed alleged harassment from her father over many years. “I had told him once that if you touch my mother, I will break your hand. He used to beat her, saying she should die and that I should meet the same fate as her,” Darshita said, illustrating the severity of the situation.

Difficult Marital Life Highlighted

Sonali’s father, Sanjeev Tripathi of Tikamgarh district in Madhya Pradesh, shared his side of the story. He explained the troubled relationship between Sonali and Sandeep. Tripathi stated that he had given Rs 20 lakh in cash as dowry, but his daughter and her family continued making demands.

“Following the birth of our daughter Darshita, Sandeep sought a boy, leaving Sonali and me alone at the nursing home. He visited us a month later with a hostile attitude,” Sanjeev recounted.

Final Call from a Troubled Daughter

More recently, Sonali attended her cousin’s wedding when Sandeep called her back home. Upon reaching, she was informed of her rapidly declining health and later found hanging at her house.

“This morning, I got a call, saying my daughter’s health has deteriorated. After some time, I received another call, saying she hung herself. As soon as I arrived, I learnt that she was dead,” Sanjeev shared his anguish.

Official Investigation and Challenges

Local authority, Kotwali City Police officer Ramveer Singh, was tasked with investigating the circumstances surrounding Sonali’s death. He mentioned that the body was sent for an autopsy, with results pending.
