Jessi Miley-Dyer Steps Down as World Surf League Commissioner

After more than a decade at the helm,Jessi Miley-Dyer is leaving her post.


After more than 13 years of guiding competitive surfing, jessi Miley-Dyer is resigning from her position as World surf League commissioner. According to a news release from the WSL, her final event as commissioner will be this month’s Lexus Trestles Pro. The league has not yet announced a replacement.

Miley-Dyer’s career includes six years surfing on the Championship Tour (formerly the ASP) before she transitioned to a leadership role within the organization in 2011. Over the past decade, she has been instrumental in achieving significant milestones related to equity, including the implementation of equal prize money for men and women in 2018, the merging of the men’s and women’s tours in 2022, and the forthcoming expansion of the women’s Championship Tour field in 2026. In 2021, she was promoted to Senior Vice President of Tours and Competitions, where she spearheaded the reintroduction of the mid-year cut in 2022 and the establishment of the WSL Finals as the season-ending event to crown world champions.

Miley-Dyer’s Reflections on Her Tenure

“With the 2025 regular season complete, and our postseason qualification and expanded women’s field now set, I feel this is the right moment for me to step aside,” Miley-Dyer said in a statement. “It’s been the honour of my life to help guide this sport that has given me so much. I’m incredibly proud of what we’ve achieved together, from raising the level of competition to breaking new ground in gender equality.I’ll always be the WSL’s biggest fan, and I’m excited to see what comes next for both the WSL and our athletes.”
