Drone Light Shows Take Center Stage in Jeju’s Festival Season
Jeju Island is embracing drone technology to elevate its festival experiences. This year, a series of spectacular drone light shows are planned to coincide with major events, promising to captivate audiences and showcase the island’s unique cultural identity and vision for the future.
The inaugural display, featuring 1,200 drones, took place at the 59th Jeju Private Exhibition on April 18th.the 10-minute performance was a narrative told through light, divided into 11 scenes that celebrated Jeju’s heritage and aspirations.
A Symphony of Light: Tradition Meets future Vision
The drone show at the Jeju Private Exhibition masterfully blended tradition with forward-thinking concepts. The performance paid homage to the island’s iconic Haenyeo
, or female divers, symbolizing their enduring spirit and connection to the sea.It also highlighted Jeju’s commitment to sustainability, featuring scenes depicting green hydrogen energy and urban air mobility (UAM) technologies. Furthermore, the show emphasized ecological preservation through a visual journey of the southern dolphin, a beloved marine inhabitant of the region.
The lives of Haenyeo expressed the tradition and pioneering spirit of Jeju… and showed the sustainable future of Jeju with green hydrogen and urban air traffic (UAM) scenes.
Following a vibrant fireworks display themed Jeju’s Global Leap
, the drone show culminated in a breathtaking depiction of Jeju’s dedication to sustainable advancement, painting a vivid picture in the night sky.
Collaboration and Safety: ensuring a Seamless Spectacle
The success of the drone light show at the Jeju Private Exhibition was a result of close collaboration with the Jeju Regional Aviation Administration. Given the proximity of the performance to the airport (within 9.3km), stringent safety protocols were implemented under the aviation office’s supervision to ensure the safety of both the audience and air traffic.
Looking Ahead: More Drone Shows on the horizon
enthusiasts can look forward to two more drone light shows in Jeju this year:
- Seongsan Shellfish Festival (August 9): This show, featuring over 1,000 drones, will add a touch of magic to the summer night sky in Seongsan-eup, Seogwipo-si.
- Jeju Global Future Aerospace Confesta (September 5): This event will feature both daytime air drone shows (300 drones) and a grand nighttime drone light show (1,100 drones).
