The wedding of Jeff Bezos and Lauren Sanchez has been described as both the most public and the most secretive event of the year.

The highlight of the three-day celebration in Venice took place on friday with a private ceremony on the island of San Giorgio Maggiore.Approximately 200 guests, including prominent figures like the Kardashian-Jenner family, Bill Gates, Karlie Kloss, Oprah Winfrey, and Usher, were seen arriving by water taxis. However, details of the event remained private, as guests reportedly agreed not to share content on social media.

The ceremony concluded discreetly, with the exception of a digital Vogue cover showcasing Sanchez’s dress. It was confirmed that the dress was a custom Dolce & Gabbana design, which took a year and a half to create. The lace dress featured a high neck, corset, and 180 silk gauze-covered buttons. According to Vogue, Sanchez wore two additional outfits during the evening: a heart-neckline dress inspired by the 1946 film “Gilda” for dinner, and a cocktail dress adorned with 175,000 Oscar de la Renta sequins.

San Giorgio Maggiore, known for its renaissance marble designed by Andrea Palladio, was chosen by the couple partly for its privacy.

Following protests in Venice, which included threats of blockades and the display of Bezos mannequins, the couple reportedly changed one of the celebration venues at the last minute. The island’s security and inaccessibility were crucial factors in their decision. The Venice Ministry of Tourism estimated that the celebrations would generate nearly 68% of the city’s annual tourist revenue in a single weekend. However, protesters voiced concerns about the city being “taken over” by the world’s wealthiest individuals.

Following Bocelli’s performance, Lady Gaga is expected to conclude the festivities on Saturday with a performance at the Arsenale, a former medieval shipyard in Venice that has been transformed into a cultural space and the headquarters of the Venice Biennale.
