Jean Bassères, member of the RATP board of directors, will act as interim CEO, vacant after the departure of Jean Castex for SNCF, according to a decree published Friday October 31 at Official Journal. Aged 65, the new leader, a financial inspector, will take up his duties at the head of the Régie Autonome des Transports Parisiens from November 3, according to this decree from the Ministry of the Economy.
Member of the RATP board of directors since March 2024, this financial inspector headed Pôle emploi (renamed France Travail) from 2011 to 2023. A former student of the National School of Administration, Jean Bassères also served as provisional director of Sciences Po Paris, between March and September 2024, after the resignation of former director Mathias Vicherat.
This senior civil servant from Perpignan (Pyrénées-Orientales) and father of three children cut his teeth in socialist ministerial offices.
