Japan Hit by Torrential Rains, Train Service Disrupted

Torrential rains impacted areas of western and north-eastern Japan on Friday morning, according to JMA. The heavy rainfall was attributed to warm and humid air interacting with the margins of a typhoon.
The village of Shimokitayama, in the prefecture of Nara, experienced a record-breaking 84.5 mm of rain in just one hour. Consequently of the severe flooding in central Japan, the Shinkansen train service on the Tokaido line was partially suspended after water levels exceeded safety limits, according to the operator JR Central.
Transportation Impacts and safety Measures
JR Central took swift action to suspend services on the tokaido Shinkansen line to ensure passenger safety. The suspension is expected to last until water levels recede and safety inspections are completed.
The village of Shimokitayama, in the prefecture of Nara, recorded a record of 84.5 mm of rain in just an hour.
