Donald Trump and Shigeru Ishiba Discuss Over $1 Trillion Investment in US
The high-level meeting between Donald Trump and Japanese Prime Minister Shigeru Ishiba resulted in a significant investment commitment from Japan to the United States.
On February 7, Ishiba traveled to Washington D.C. for a meeting with Trump. The two leaders discussed a variety of topics, including military and security, economics, and regional affairs, in a nearly two-hour face-to-face conversation.
Trump and Ishiba delved into strategic partnerships, emphasizing mutual interests in defense, trade, and economic development. This meeting marks the first time the two leaders have met in person since Trump assumed office.

The Pledge of Investment
During the meeting, Ishiba made a bold commitment to invest $1 trillion in the United States. This pledge underscores the strengthened relationship between the two governments and aims to bolster economic ties.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Japan’s meeting notes stated, “The two leaders affirmed that Japan and the US are close partners in the economic field as well, with Japan being the world’s largest investor in the US for five consecutive years.”
Prime Minister Ishiba further conveyed his willingness to elevate Japan’s investment in the US to this unprecedented amount of $1 trillion, to which President Trump expressed strong support.
