James Taylor Charms Minnesota Crowd with Classic Hits
A packed house at the Xcel energy center was treated to an intimate performance by the legendary singer-songwriter.

Music resonated through the Xcel Energy Center in St. Paul, Minnesota, as James Taylor graced the stage earlier this week. Accompanied by his 11-member band, he captivated an audience of 12,000 devoted fans.
After commencing the concert, Taylor reportedly said, “Minneapolis. it’s great to be back,” according to Twin Cities Pioneer Press,before playfully correcting himself with a smile.
Among the attendees was Jim olson, the craftsman behind Taylor’s guitars, recognized and thanked by Taylor for his artistry following a serendipitous encounter at a 1989 benefit show.
The 77-year-old commenced the performance with “Wandering,” a track released in 1975. The setlist featured a series of road-themed songs that resonated with the audience.The opening notes of “Carolina in My Mind” prompted keen standing ovations. Despite his age, Taylor showcased his vocal prowess and delivered his timeless songs with expertise.
The band featured stellar musicians, contributing to the intimate atmosphere of the two-hour show. Lou Marini, celebrated for his work with the Blues Brothers, played the saxophone. Andrea Zonn contributed vocals, while Minnesota’s Jimmy Johnson, a touring veteran of 33 years, played bass.

taylor shared stories between songs, recounting his first journey to South America, where musician Gilberto Gil loaned him a guitar after his luggage was lost. This anecdote led into “Only a Dream in rio.”
A violin solo introduced “Fire and Rain,” while “You’ve Got a Friend” was elevated by harmonies. His son, Henry, joined him for “You Can Close Your Eyes.” The band concluded with “Steamroller Blues,” a rendition of Marvin Gaye’s “How Sweet It Is,” culminating in a duet between father and son.
