Italy Fertility Crisis: Declining Birth Rate Explained

by drbyos

In a paradox that shocks the world, fertility rates in Italy, known as a country of love and romance, have reached their lowest historical levels at 1.18 children per woman, according to data from the National Institute of Statistics (Istat).

The country that has always sung about the warm Italian family is now experiencing a population “coldness” crisis that threatens its demographic future. During the year 2024, only 369,944 births were recorded, a decrease of 2.6% from the previous year, while in 2008 the number exceeded the barrier of 576 thousand births.

The downward curve has not stopped for more than a decade, prompting experts to warn that Italy is losing its lust for life itself, in light of the decline in marriage, postponement of childbearing, and stifling economic pressures that extinguish the warmth of relations.

Observers believe that the “Country of Love” is facing its most serious humanitarian crisis today, when the Italian bed becomes cold, and love stories turn into memories on the walls, which do not give birth to anyone.
