ROME – Vacationers in Italy should be aware of a growing cockroach infestation, particularly in Rome, where high temperatures adn unsanitary conditions are causing an increase in the pest population.

The suburbs of Fiumicino, Boccea, Aurelio, and Monte Mario are particularly affected, according to the Italian Tagesschau “Rainews.”

The american cockroach, or *Periplaneta Americana*, is to blame for this invasion. According to the “institute for Pest Studies,” this species can grow to be four centimeters long, making it one of the largest cockroaches in europe.

They are easily identified by their reddish-brown color and distinctive yellow back shield. These insects can fly, which is especially unpleasant for locals and tourists.

Cockroaches pose a serious health risk along with being repulsive.They transmit pathogens and mold spores on their bodies, which can last up to 72 hours and spread thru feces or contact surfaces. These pests can also worsen house dust allergies and harm technical systems.
