Washington – 12-19 (KUNA) — US President Donald Trump considered on Friday that the operation that was announced earlier today against the strongholds of the so-called Islamic State (ISIS) in Syria would be a “harsh retaliatory response” to an attack targeting American soldiers in Syria last week.
Trump said on his platform (Truth Social): “Just as I promised, we are launching very strong strikes against the strongholds of ISIS and the murderous terrorists responsible for an attack targeting brave American soldiers in Syria.”
He added, “Syria, a land that has been drowned in blood and suffers from many problems, holds a promising future if ISIS is eliminated,” stressing that the Syrian government supports this process.
In this regard, he pointed out that “the Syrian government, led by a man who is working hard to restore glory to Syria, fully supports this operation,” warning “all terrorists who dared to attack Americans with harsher strikes than ever before if you attack the United States or threaten it in any way.”
US Secretary of War Pete Hegseth and the US Central Command operating in the Middle East separately announced earlier today the start of this military operation. (End) AMM/RJ
