“Ehope and ambition was precisely what we did not see in this proposal that was presented to us”said Pedro Nuno Santos, admitting, however, that the party will still have to better analyze the measures announced by Luís Montenegro’s executive, this Friday.
The PS secretary general continued, stating that “a lot of calm and caution” is needed when evaluating the measure, so that the Portuguese are not “deceived” afterwards.
“We are going to make a careful assessment, but a quick first assessment leads us to see that the gains that the Portuguese will make are only residual gains”he continued, stating that “today it is better understood why the AD Government tried to create the trick of including the 1,300 million from the PS in the measure, as its proposal was not for any fiscal relief”.
Pedro Nuno Santos also argued that the measure presents two very different visions of what the priorities of the two parties are, with the priority for the PS being to build “a fairer and more supportive Portugal”. In the AD proposal, he accuses, “the biggest gains are for those with higher incomes”.
“The little tax savings that [a proposta] achieves is superior for those above”, he said, also referring to the gains as “negligible”.
