Recent reports have highlighted alleged Iranian efforts to target former U.S. President Donald Trump, adding another layer of complexity to the ongoing conflict in the Middle East. These allegations have emerged against a backdrop of heightened tensions, with Israel and Iran engaged in a series of escalating actions.

In one instance, a shooting at a Trump golf course in West Palm beach, Fla., raised concerns, although the shooter’s motives remain unclear. Separately, a Pakistani national named Merciper Asif was apprehended in Texas in August 2024, accused of plotting to assassinate prominent U.S. politicians, potentially including Trump, allegedly at Iran’s behest.

In response to these accusations, an Iranian United Nations Mission spokesperson told CNN that they had not received any official reports from the U.S. Government regarding the matter. The spokesperson added that the alleged tactics contradicted Iran’s policy of legally prosecuting those responsible for the death of General Soleimani.

trump’s campaign stated in September that he had been informed of “real and specific threats from Iran to assassinate him.”

“Big threats on my life by Iran,” Trump posted on social media. “The entire U.S. Military is watching and waiting.Moves were already made by Iran that didn’t work out, but they will try again.”

The Biden Administration reportedly sent a warning to Iran via Switzerland in September, cautioning that an assassination attempt against Trump would be considered an act of war. In October, Iran responded through Swiss diplomats, assuring U.S. officials that it would not attempt to kill Trump, according to the Wall Street Journal.

Following Trump’s election in November 2024, the Justice Department announced charges against Farhad Shakeri, an Afghan national, for allegedly conspiring with Iranian officials to surveil and assassinate Trump.

Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi responded on X, stating, “A new scenario is fabricated. The American people have made their decision. And Iran respects their right to elect the President of their choice. The path forward is also a choice. It begins with respect.” Iranian foreign ministry spokesperson Esmaeil Baghaei claimed the allegations were part of a “repulsive” plot by Israel to sabotage U.S.-Iran relations.

Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian told NBC in january that Iran “never attempted” to kill Trump, “and we never will.”

“This is another one of those schemes that Israel and other countries are designing to promote Iranophobia,” Pezeshkian said. “Iran has never attempted to nor does it plan to assassinate anyone.At least as far as I know.”

Israel Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu claimed in a Fox News interview that Iran actively sought to assassinate Trump because he is “forceful” and “decisive.”

“They want to kill him,” Netanyahu insisted. “He’s enemy number one.”
