For the third time in the past ten days, the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) has reported an attack near Iran’s Bushehr nuclear power plant as part of the Iran war. According to Iranian information, neither damage to the operating reactor nor any release of radiation was detected, the IAEA announced on Platform X in Vienna late in the evening. IAEA Director General Rafael Grossi called for utmost restraint in the conflict to avoid a nuclear accident.
Iran had already reported projectile impacts on the site of the Bushehr nuclear power plant this week and last week. There was no damage to the facility or injuries on both occasions. The Bushehr nuclear facility, Iran’s only nuclear power plant, is located about 760 kilometers south of Tehran on the Persian Gulf. Its Russian-designed reactor has been supplying electricity since 2011. The Russian state nuclear company Rosatom is currently building a second reactor block.
Authority: Heavy water research reactor hit
In addition, the heavy water research reactor Chondab (formerly Arak) was hit on Friday, according to the IAEA. There is no radiation risk because the facility does not contain any declared nuclear material, it was said.
In addition, a steel production facility in Khuzestan province that uses sealed radioactive sources for measurements was attacked. However, here too there was no release of radiation outside the site.
The USA and Israel say that one of their war goals is to prevent Iran from ever acquiring nuclear weapons. Tehran denies developing nuclear weapons. (DPA)
