Iran Jails British Couple for Espionage – 10 Year Sentence

Foreman’s son, Joe Bennett, was informed of the verdict on Thursday, and he himself received the information last week, The Guardian reports. “My parents were sentenced to ten years in prison after a trial that lasted only three hours and during which they were not allowed to defend themselves. They consistently denied the charges. We saw no evidence for the espionage charge,” Bennett said.

Before the sentencing, Foreman told the British media that she and her husband had come to the country as part of a “global initiative to focus on good”. Craig, on the other hand, said that the only thing that keeps him afloat in Tehran prison is the occasional reunions with his wife. “I know her prison is only seventy meters away and I see her once a month. For me and Lindsay, our reunions are the only thing that keeps us alive. I love my wife very much. She is the love of my life,” Foreman stated.

Bennett, who already in January personally delivered a petition with 70,000 signatures to British Prime Minister Keir Starmer’s office demanding that the government do more to free Britons held in Iran, again called on her to use all available means to secure the release of his parents.

Foreign Minister Cooper has already commented on the condemnation of the British couple. “This verdict is absolutely heinous and completely unjustifiable. We will relentlessly pursue this case with the Iranian government until Craig and Lindsay Foreman are safely returned home and reunited with their family. In the meantime, their well-being is our priority and we will continue to provide them and their family with consular support,” Cooper said.
