5. The notch: a “temporary” solution that lasted years
Introduced with the iPhone However, internally it was considered a compromise solution while waiting for the technology needed to hide the camera and sensors under the display. Although Apple initially defended the notch with enthusiasm, its presence was criticized by many users and analysts, especially because Android competitors had already adopted less invasive solutions such as holes in the display. Apple kept the notch for 6 years, until the introduction of the “Dynamic Island” with the iPhone 14 Pro in 2022.
