- iPhone 17 Air is reported to be only 5.5 mm thick
- It’s even thinner than the Samsung Galaxy S25 Edge
- However, it seems only to have a single rear camera
Iphone 17 Air is a rumored phone that- regardless of other advantages or disadvantages- will largely be assessed based on how thin it is. After all, being thin seems to be all its unique sales points and on that front it can succeed.
In a new Youtube video, FrontpageTech (via notebook check) claims that iPhone 17 Air will only be 5.5 mm thick, which would make it even thinner than the Samsung Galaxy S25 Edge, which measures 5.8 mm. Although it is only a difference of 0.3 mm, this can still be an important victory for Apple, since the S25 Edge is this rumored telephone’s main competitor and also the market as thin.
Of course, we take this measure with a pinch of salt, especially since FrontpageTech has mixed history, but in recent times they have been right more often than wrong and this leakage is largely in line with previous rumors about the iPhone 17 Air – even if one states a thickness of 5.44 mm and another 5.65 mm. In all cases, however, the leaks point out that Apple’s phone is beating Samsung at this point.
Compromised camera and price in the plus class
However, iPhone 17 Air will not be able to beat the Samsung Galaxy S25 Edge on all points. According to the latest leak – like many others – the iPhone 17 Air will only have a single camera of 48 MP. This is in contrast to the double camera system in the S25 Edge, which consists of a main camera of 200 MP and an ultravid angle camera of 12 MP. Thus, it seems that Apple prioritizes thinness over camera functionality.
Other specifications have also leaked and are largely in line with what we have heard before. These include an A19 chip-but not the A19 Pro-as well as 12 GB of RAM and a 6.6-inch screen with 120 Hz update frequency.
The video also takes up the battery and says that Apple will use one with silicon anode, to achieve higher energy density than would otherwise be possible. This, combined with an effective modem and chip, could mean that the iPhone 17 Air gets almost as long battery life as the regular iPhone 17 – even though there is less room for the battery.
Finally, the price is mentioned in the video and reportedly iPhone 17 Air will cost about as much as the iPhone 16 Plus – a phone that has a starting price of SEK 12,995. This is also in line with several previous leaks.
We learn to know about all this is true in September, when the iPhone 17 Air is expected to be launched-along with the rest of the iPhone 17 series.
