The upcoming iPadOS 26 is set to incorporate several features previously exclusive to macOS, possibly reshaping the user experience and raising questions about the distinction between tablets and computers.

One of the most notable changes is the addition of a macOS-style menu bar at the top of the iPad screen. Users will also find familiar colored buttons for closing and maximizing windows, enabling them to arrange multiple windows side-by-side and resize them as needed.

Further bridging the gap, iPadOS 26 will introduce a mouse arrow, replacing the traditional circular cursor. The update also includes the Preview app, already available on Mac, allowing users to view and annotate images and files.Both iPadOS 26 and MacOS 26 will adopt the new “Liquid Glass” design language across all Apple devices.

It has often been speculated whether the iPad would eventually replace the Mac.”

He continues, “Many people use their iPad for all kinds of tasks, but lack functions such as being able to multitask with multiple windows, something that is obvious on the Mac. Yet I don’t see the iPad directly as a replacement, although it can led to it in theory. People who want to get more out of their iPad will be faster to buy one compact form. Tasks, larger files or simply a larger screen remains a fully -fledged computer indispensable. “

MacOS 26: What’s New?

MacOS 26, also known as macOS Tahoe, brings its own set of enhancements. beyond the “Liquid glass” aesthetic,users can now personalize their desktops with emojis on folders,new color schemes,and updated designs. Integration with iPhones is also improved, with live tracking of Uber EATS orders appearing directly on the Mac desktop.

Apple Intelligence is integrated into MacOS 26, offering features like the ability for students to automatically compare lecture recordings with their notes using the Shortcuts app. The AI can then fill in any missing facts.
