A recent study by the Iowa Bicycle Coalition, “Economic Impacts of Cycling and Trails Study Phase II,” highlights the substantial economic contributions of cycling and trail usage in every Iowa county. The study, conducted by Scioto Analysis with support from the Iowa DOT, indicates that recreational cyclists contribute significantly to local economies and workforce development.
The study found that 40% of recreational cyclists ride at least twice a month, resulting in considerable spending. Even rural counties like Adams see over $500,000 in annual economic impact, while Polk County experiences more then $150 million.Dallas and Black Hawk counties each benefit from $25 million in annual impact across various industries, according to the study.
