Intimate partner violence (IPV) and sexual violence against children (SVAC) are known to be causally associated with a range of health problems, but data limitations have hampered previous efforts to quantify the related global burden of disease.1,2 In The Lancet, as part of the Global Burden of Diseases, Injuries, and Risk Factors Study (GBD), the GBD 2023 Intimate Partner Violence and Sexual Violence against Children Collaborators3 present a considerably extended picture of the health burden of IPV and SVAC by applying substantially advanced GBD methodologies to greatly improved prevalence estimates.
