A recent study has explored the effectiveness of various intermittent fasting approaches in comparison to customary calorie restriction diets for weight loss. The findings suggest that while all strategies of intermittent fasting adn continuous energy restriction resulted in some weight loss compared to unrestricted eating, the results varied depending on the specific fasting method employed.

According to the study, alternating day fasting was the only intermittent fasting strategy that demonstrated a slight advantage in reducing body weight when compared to classic continuous calorie restriction, wiht a mean difference of minus 1.29 kg.The alternating day fasting method also performed marginally better than the other two intermittent fasting methods examined: time-restricted eating (TRE) and whole-day fasting, showing mean differences of minus 1.69 kg and minus 1.05 kg, respectively.

Alternating fasting on different days was the only intermittent fasting strategy that showed a small advantage in the reduction in body weight.
