A photographer captured this crystal-clear shot of Toronto’s skyline from Fort Niagara State Park in New York, looking straight across Lake Ontario toward the GTA.
The photo quickly spread online after people realized the skyline in the distance wasn’t New York City but actually Toronto across the border. The photographer used a 300mm zoom lens, which compresses distance and makes faraway buildings appear much closer.
Some viewers also pointed to rare clear-sky conditions over the lake and possible atmospheric refraction, which can make distant skylines appear sharper than usual.
On especially clear days, people in Toronto have also reported spotting parts of New York State and even Niagara Falls mist from high points like Toronto Island.
