You work hard and play by the rules yet the debt keeps growing even while you’re paying it off.
It’s not fair and it’s not right.
Under my leadership, a future Conservative Government will cap Plan 2 student loan interest (affecting most graduates who started university between 2012 and 2023 in England) to be no more than inflation. That way your debt doesn’t keep spiralling despite chunky repayments.
Because if you work hard and do the right thing, the government should back you.
The Labour Government should make this change at the upcoming Spring Statement. Instead, Rachel Reeves is making money off your student loans to fill the fiscal hole she created with her budget. Worse than that, by freezing repayment thresholds, she is dragging more students into her debt trap. The @conservatives will fix this by capping the interest rate of plan 2 loans at inflation.
Our student loan reforms are just Step 1 in the Conservatives’ New Deal for Young People.
We’re the only party building a serious offer for the next generation and their future.
