Meta creates the option for End-to-end encryption in Instagram DMs away. “End-to-end encrypted messages on Instagram will no longer be supported after May 8, 2026,” an Instagram help page says. According to media reports, a Meta spokesman says that only very few users have activated encrypted communication in Instagram DMs. End-to-end encryption is intended to ensure that, for example, a chat cannot be read by anyone other than the sender and recipient – not even the messenger provider. According to the meta support section, users have the option to download chats affected by the change that they want to keep. Read more about this here.
