They fly, glide, crawl, walk, dig, swim… and represent almost 80% of the animal species on Earth: insects have managed to conquer numerous ecosystems in very diverse climates. As a key link in the food chain, insects are the food source of many species and allow the pollination of a considerable number of plants, thus guaranteeing much of our food supply. However, they can also cause significant damage to crops.
Widely studied but often misunderstood, beneficial and sometimes harmful, insects are crucial to our ecosystems. Did you know that they have hidden talents? True survival experts, they have developed a sophisticated arsenal of defenses. So sophisticated, in fact, that the 2011 Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine was awarded to researchers working on fruit fly immunity. Come and discover more about the superpowers of insects!
Program
Fanny Vogelweith is an entomologist, doctor in ecology and specialized in insect defenses. In addition, she is a teacher and scientific communicator. After several years of research on the defenses of agricultural pests and beneficial insects, applied to biological control, he founded his entomology services company, Entomo-Logik. He has had the opportunity to work in various public and private research institutions, such as INRAE in Bordeaux, the University of Burgundy, the University of Ribeirão Preto (Brazil) and the Max Planck Institute in Jena (Germany).
