TEMPO.CO, Jakarta – The Indonesian National Police (Polri) has taken a proactive step by initiating a special recruitment pathway for Quran memorizers (hafiz) to join the police force, known as the Bhayangkara Corps.
Building Ethical Conduct Through Hafiz Recruitment
Polri believes that incorporating Quran memorizers into its ranks will serve as a model for ethical conduct within the institution. This decision reflects the agency’s commitment to high moral standards and strong character among its officers.
“Polri also provides broad opportunities for Quran memorizers and santri who wish to become police officers,” said National Police Inspector General, Commissioner General Dedi Prasetyo, in a statement released on February 10, 2025.
The Role of Quran Memorization in Building Police Discipline
According to Prasetyo, the educational discipline instilled in Quran memorization aligns well with the values upheld within the police institution. He emphasized that such discipline reflects strong character and the ability to follow orders and procedures properly.
Decreasing Recruitment Numbers and Targeted Intervention
Prasetyo noted a decline in the number of police recruits with a background in Islamic boarding schools or Quran memorization over the past four years. The new recruitment pathway aims to address this decline, targeting an increase in recruitment during the 2025 selection period.

The 2025 Polri recruitment period runs from February 5 to March 6,2025. prospective officers can choose from four selection pathways:
- Police Academy (Akpol)
- Inspector School for University Graduates (SIPSS)
- Non-Commissioned Officers (Bintara)
- Enlisted Personnel (Tamtama)
Historical Recruitment Numbers Highlight the Need for Change

- 2023: 74 recruits (61 Bintara, 13 Tamtama)
