According to a report released by the Mecca Province Traffic Police, the accident unfolded when a Jeep Land Cruiser Double Cabin, driven by a Pakistani national, crossed the median and collided head-on with a bus transporting umrah pilgrims from Indonesia. Tragically,both the Pakistani driver of the Jeep and a Bangladeshi passenger in the vehicle died at the scene. Initial reports incorrectly identified the nationalities of the deceased,but these have as been clarified by authorities. The bus was carrying Indonesian pilgrims, many of whom sustained injuries.

Immediate Aftermath and Support for Victims

The accident, which occurred on Friday, prompted a swift response from the Indonesian Consulate General in Jeddah, who were notified around 13:30 local time. The immediate aftermath saw 14 individuals injured and six confirmed dead. As of the latest reports,11 of the injured pilgrims have recovered sufficiently to resume their umrah. However, three remain seriously injured and are receiving ongoing medical care.

Repatriation and Burial Arrangements

While the injured receive treatment and prepare to continue their pilgrimage, arrangements are being made for the deceased. Five of the pilgrims who lost their lives will be laid to rest in Saudi Arabia, honoring local customs and traditions. The final decision regarding the burial of the sixth victim is pending discussions with their family.
