Bulgarian national team coach Aleksandar Dimitrov will comeback to Indonesia for the FIFA Series event. Previously he was an assistant coach for the Indonesian National Team.

Bulgaria will appear in Indonesia in the 2026 FIFA Series. This moment is Dimitrov’s opportunity to remember his early days as a coach.

Before becoming a coach, he also spent time playing in Indonesia with Persipura Jayapura in 2003 – 2005. He then became an assistant coach at Persipura led by Bulgarian tactician Ivan Kolev.

When Ivan Kolev was assigned to manage the Indonesian national team in 2007, Dimitrov was also invited to become an assistant. After that, he left the Indonesian national team to start his career as a head coach for another team.

About 19 years later, Dimitrov had the opportunity to return to Indonesia. This time he will come as the head coach of Bulgaria.

“I spent three beautiful years in Indonesia. There, football is a religion. Team training can be watched by around 5 thousand people,” said Dimitrov, quoted by Bulgarian media, Top sport.

The 49 year old coach also knows a little about the current condition of Indonesian football. He also followed Indonesia’s ambition to appear and hold the World Cup.

“They (Indonesia) are investing heavily in football. They are now targeting qualifying for the 2030 World Cup. They also want to hold the 2034 or 2038 World Cup,” said Dimitrov.

“The coach is Patrick Kluivert, a Dutch methodologist and specialist,” said Dimitrov, who did not exactly reveal the latest composition of the Indonesian national team coaching team.
