Indonesia Equips Schools with Digital Classrooms

The Ministry of Primary adn Secondary Education is rolling out smart TVs, interactive whiteboards, and other digital tools to schools nationwide to enhance learning.

In a move to modernize education, the Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education has begun distributing digital devices, including smart TVs and interactive whiteboards,to schools across Indonesia. The goal is to create digital classrooms where teachers and students can simultaneously access high-quality learning resources.

The ministry aims to equip 288,865 schools with digital tools this year. The rollout includes Interactive Flat Panels (IFP), laptops, and media storage devices pre-loaded with educational content. The initial phase of distribution has been underway throughout August, though specific figures on the number of devices distributed so far have not been released.

Director-General of Early Childhood Education,Dasmen Gogot Suharwoto, emphasized that the devices are more than just display screens. “Schools receiving IFP will also receive technical guidance to optimize the use of existing features,” said Gogot,in a written statement on Saturday,August 23,2025.

The devices function similarly to interactive whiteboards, allowing teachers to display videos, access pre-installed content from external hard drives, and write directly on the screen. The technology also supports two-way interaction between teachers and students through various learning applications.

Prior to distribution, the ministry verified that schools had the necessary infrastructure, including reliable electricity and internet access. “We continue to confirm with recipient schools regarding their readiness. The goal is for the devices to be genuinely used, not just for display,” said Gogot.

The digitalization initiative is intended to establish a complete digital classroom ecosystem. The government hopes the new equipment will help bridge the educational gap between urban and underserved schools.

“We will oversee this program together, to ensure that it truly hits the mark and has a real impact on the quality of education,” said gogot.

Benefits of Interactive Learning

The integration of interactive flat panels and digital resources aims to transform traditional teaching methods. By providing access to a wider range of learning materials and fostering greater engagement, these tools can enhance student comprehension and knowledge retention.

“Schools receiving IFP will also receive technical guidance to optimize the use of existing features.”

Furthermore, the initiative supports the advancement of crucial digital literacy skills among both educators and students, preparing them for success in an increasingly technology-driven world.
