Indonesia Seizes International Sex Offender Trevor John Collison

The Immigration Directorate General of Indonesia announced the apprehension of Trevor John Collison (TJC), a fugitive wanted by the United States Marshals Service, on December 30. TJC is suspected of sexual exploitation involving minors in his home country.

According to Sr. Comr. Yuldi Yusman, the arrest took place at the Tangerang Immigration Office when TJC applied for an extension of his visitor visa. The Immigration Supervisor and Enforcement leadership revealed these details to the media on a press conference.

The Role of the US Marshals Service

The US Marshals Service, a federal law enforcement agency under the Department of Justice, plays a crucial role in locating and arresting federal suspects and managing the federal witness protection program.

TJC’s Entry into Indonesia

TJC arrived in Indonesia on December 4 and remained in the country until December 18, when the US Embassy informed the Immigration Directorate General that his passport had been invalidated. This made his presence in Indonesia unlawful.

The Investigation Process

Following the notification from the US Embassy, Immigration initiated a prevention order and launched a preliminary investigation. The investigation team’s cyber patrols revealed TJC’s location through the online residence permit system.

“Thanks to the cyber patrol conducted by the [Immigration] investigation team, the perpetrator’s location was detected through the online residence permit extension system,” Yuldi Yusman stated, as reported by cnnindonesia.com.

Swift and Unobstructed Arrest

Based on the information gathered, the joint team moved swiftly to apprehend TJC without any complications.
“The joint team immediately carried out the arrest swiftly and without any obstacles,” Yuldi Yusman explained.

Charges against TJC

TJC faces severe charges in accordance with US federal law, including sexual exploitation and attempted exploitation of minors, as stipulated in Title 18 of the United States Code (USC) Sections 2251(a) and 2251(e). These specific sections address the production of child sexual exploitation materials.

Additionally, TJC is accused of possessing child pornography, as outlined in Title 18 of the USC Sections 2252A(a)(5)(B) and 2252A(b)(2). These sections relate to storing or keeping explicit images of children intended for distribution or private usage.

Future Strategies

Following this case, Immigration leadership reinforced its commitment to closely monitoring foreign nationals, particularly those implicated in international criminal activities.

“We are committed to ensuring that Indonesia does not become a sanctuary for transnational criminals,” Sr. Comr. Yuldi Yusman underscored, as per reporting from Antara news agency.

Conclusion

The successful arrest of Trevor John Collison marks a significant victory for both Indonesian and US law enforcement agencies. It highlights the importance of international collaboration in combating serious crimes impacting children across national borders.

This case also demonstrates the effectiveness of modern technological tools in detecting criminal activities and the value of stringent monitoring of foreign visitors. It sends a strong message that no corner of the world will provide a safe haven for criminals.
