As a result of the investigation, officers recovered 20 firearms and three machine gun conversion devices.
CHICAGO — Five people with Indianapolis ties are facing felony charges after Chicago police say they were allegedly trafficking firearms between the two cities.
According to a release from the Chicago Police Department, during an investigation by the Crime Gun Intelligence Center of Chicago, a gunrunning ring was discovered involving firearms and machine gun conversion devices being trafficked between Indianapolis and Chicago.
As a result of the investigation, officers recovered 20 firearms and three machine gun conversion devices. Four adults and one juvenile, all reportedly from Indianapolis, were arrested on the following preliminary charges:
A 23-year-old man faces four felonies:
- Gunrunning 11-20 firearms
- Gunrunning
- Unlawful use of a weapon
- Aggravated fleeing with damage of less than $300 to a property
A 19-year-old man faces four felonies:
- Gunrunning 11-20 firearms
- Gunrunning
- Unlawful use of a weapon
- Unlawful sale of a firearm by a felon
An 18-year-old man faces three felonies:
- Gunrunning 11-20 firearms
- Gunrunning
- Unlawful use of a weapon
A different 18-year-old also faces three felonies:
- Gunrunning 11-20 firearms
- Gunrunning
- Unlawful use of a weapon
A 17-year-old juvenile male faces three felonies:
- Gunrunning 11-20 firearms
- Gunrunning
- Two counts of selling a firearm with no valid form of identification
