TOI+ published the first-hand story of a young woman from Kerala who was tortured by her husband and in-laws for having a son. After that story, we came to know of similar horror stories from women across the country. Whatever he told us, here we are presenting his same story.

In December 2023, Karnataka Police arrested a hospital owner. The action was taken because a female fetus, which was illegally aborted at this hospital, was wrapped in a cover and thrown inside a dustbin on the outskirts of Bengaluru. Dr D Srinivas, owner of SPG Hospital and Diagnostic Center at Thirumalashettyhalli in Hoskote, near Bengaluru, was arrested. After this, a large scale female feticide racket was exposed. The police then conducted several raids on medical scanning centers across the state. This incident is hardly the first of its kind. In fact, female feticide is a social issue that India has been grappling with for a long time. In 1994, the central government enacted the Pre-Natal Diagnostic Techniques (PNDT) Act to stop the practice in a country with a bias against girl children and skewed sex ratio. The 49-year-old woman informed about the harassment she faced from her in-laws.

The Tug Of War Continues Between Medical Students…

Agadir 24 | Agadir24

The tug of war continues between medical, pharmacy and dentistry students and the Ministry of Higher Education, Scientific Research and Innovation.
In this context, the students stressed that postponing their field protests is an expression of good faith and to open the door to dialogue as the only way to find solutions.

The National Committee for Medical, Pharmacy and Dentistry Students confirmed in a press conference in Rabat, “the continuation of the boycott of lessons” that lasted four months, as 25,000 students are still on an open strike, compared to only 3,000 students studying, who are sixth and seventh year students.

On the other hand, the students considered that “the Ministry is targeting them by summoning them to appear before the disciplinary councils,” indicating that “these measures may further aggravate the situation and prevent the desired relief from being reached.” They considered that “the students’ protests did not come in vain, but rather because of decisions that will change the fate of training, without involving students as they are the first concerned with the consequences of these decisions.”

For their part, parents and parents of students expressed their “tremendous” anger at the “kidnapping” of their children in the faculties of medicine,

Tbilisi, CNBC Indonesia – The United States (US) government sees that the economic recovery in Asia Pacific after the Covid-19 pandemic has not been evenly distributed. At least four countries are still in a deteriorating situation, namely Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Maldives and Laos.

“Reforms are needed in these countries,” said US Assistant Secretary of Finance Alexia Latortue at the 57th Asian Development Bank (ADB) Annual Meeting in Tbilisi, Georgia, Sunday (5/5/2024).

According to Latortue, the Asia Pacific region as a whole looks good with relatively strong and resilient growth. However, there are still several countries experiencing decline due to external and internal factors.
