Summer is the time of events when weekends are filled with concerts, holidays, events, so it is not easy for a person to choose where to go. The offer spectrum for all tastes is a cultural offer, a sports offer, and this time more than the last one. I invited Viestur Dumpis, Head of the Sports and Health Promotion Department of Cesis Municipality.
Sports Festival in the county

Traditionally, every union administration has a sports festival, one or more events, which is determined by both traditions and opportunities. V. Dumpis points out that this is a variable size, and the venues can also change: “We have renamed them a day of family sports and relaxation, because it is important that these events are for all audiences, children, their parents, and there is something to do, including for more athletic participants. The usual day was in several places, but the Pārgauja Association had a joint sports and recreational day at Stalbe Stadium.
The Sports Festival of Priekuļi took place in Liepa, was very responsive, and they were organized in Mārsnēni. This year, the event did not take place in the usual place in Gaujasmala, but in the Upper Ligatne.
There is still a mention of Jaunpiebalga, who was the only place where this holiday was organized by the Society. The municipality allocated funds, they had yet to raise many supporters, and the event was very good. ”
Viesturs also points out that the records of how many participants participate in each sport and recreation day. The data show that each had at least 150 – 200 people. “Sports coordinators are being discussed,” says V. Dumpis. “One thinks it is better to have less space, but to make the event better. The distances in the county are not large, if a person wants to get involved, he will leave if there is a quality event. If the parishes are near each other, maybe one event must be differentiated, but as I mentioned, the better quality to come to come. ”
Speaking about sports coordinators, Viesturs informs that Jānis Mičulis has returned to the position in Priekuli; Amata Board and Ligatne Board – Eric Bauer; In Jaunpiebalga and Vecpiebalga – Marcis Ločmelis, but in Cesis and the overgrowth – Ineta Krumina.
Sports and culture

Already this year, there have been problems to planned, and one day the sports festival took place in Mārneni and Pārgauja. Given that participation in sports and rest is free, V. Dumpis believes that they should not coincide in one day so that the active population can participate in all.
Asked if one day there is both a association festival organized by cultural leaders, and Sports and Recreation Day, V. Dumpis says the common denominators are sought: “It would be an opportunity to put together the calendar of events so that the county does not overlap. to do.
In my opinion, it is important that the big sporting events are supplemented with a cultural section. A good example was at the Cesis Sports Festival, where a concert was held in the evening and people could enjoy a musical evening after the competition. ”
Big sports events
This year, Cesis was selected to remove the sports section from the city festival, as before, and organize another weekend. Was it the right choice?
“Definitely yes,” says Dumpis. “We will continue this path. We are already planning that next year the festival will not be days, two, but longer.
How important is the big sporting events in the county, which also tempt to come from other cities, even countries? V. Dumpis points out that there are some big events to be: “A big contribution will be the aforementioned UTMB race. If it just goes through or along the city, we would not have interest, but with the organizers we agreed that Cesis has a race center. Yes, the long distance will start in Sigulda, otherwise You will start in Cesis or Ligatne and finish in the city.
It is also working to make the traditional cycling tour of CE-SIS-Valmiera is finishing in Cesis next year. It was once said that it would be optimal to organize one year finish in one city and the other in the other.
The organizers of the big events want the municipality to participate in funding, and the venue is often the municipality that pays more.
“When evaluating who to say yes, you have to understand what the county is economic and publicity. For example, the organizers of the rally ‘Cēsis’ have carefully evaluated, showing that the accommodation was almost entirely busy for those days, the total economic contribution to the county for about 880 thousand euros. Then the municipality is ready to support.”
Restart school sports
V. Dumpis also tells about the idea of reviving school sports. At one time, there were various inter -school competitions within the district, with the first administrative -territorial reform it came together until it disappeared completely. Now there is a plan to organize a county school competition again.
“I have met with teachers, we want to return school sports at least six disciplines,” says V. Dumpis. “Of course, there are many questions about how to bring children to the race to accompany, and more, but you have to start doing, the solution will be. The first attempt will be on October 14th – Autumn Cross in Araiši, where the Latvian cross -country championship will take place on October 12. Large teams, but 3 to 3 are also available for small school players, where the big team cannot be collected.
At different levels, it is said that children are sedentary, so this will be a chance to move in at least six sports. The contributions to physical development will also be training before the race. And perhaps a student will be involved in the sport more seriously.
