Torreón Welcomes the coahuila International Book Fair (FILC)
The city of Torreón is preparing to host a significant event for book lovers: the Coahuila International book Fair (FILC). Antonio Mendez vigatá, head of the Municipal Institute of Culture and Education (IMCE), has confirmed Torreón’s participation with a dedicated stand showcasing books published by the municipal administration. This initiative aims to promote local literary works and engage the community in reading.
While the specific program and list of participating publishers for the Torreón leg of the FILC are still under wraps, the IMCE’s involvement underscores the city’s commitment to cultural enrichment. The FILC’s presence in Torreón is strategically timed, potentially following the Arteaga event to allow for a smooth transition of exhibitors and resources.
It is wonderful that the International Book Fair from Coahuila comes to Torreón. We will support it by putting up a stand at this fair… It makes sense that it doesn’t start on the same date, because surely many of the stands that will be in Arteaga will move here.

While the IMCE’s primary contribution will be the book stand, Torreón authors will also have the prospect to present their works in Arteaga, further solidifying the city’s presence in the broader literary landscape.
fourth Edition of the Torreón Children’s and Youth book Fair
In addition to the FILC, Torreón is also gearing up for the fourth edition of its Children’s and Youth Book Fair. This event, championed by Méndez Vigatá, focuses specifically on younger readers, aiming to cultivate a love for reading from an early age. The fair serves as a platform to promote children’s literature and encourage aspiring writers to explore this genre.
The Torreón Children’s and Youth Book Fair distinguishes itself by not only fostering reading but also by encouraging writers to delve into children’s literature.Past editions have featured authors discussing their creative processes in crafting narratives for young audiences.
The fair’s location has evolved over the years, reflecting a commitment to accessibility and community engagement. The inaugural fair was held at the Cultural Centre of the North, followed by an event at the Velaria of the DIF City. Recognizing the importance of reaching a wider audience, the third edition adopted an itinerant approach, bringing the fair directly to the community.
The mixed modality, of having some activities in the watchman of DIF City and, on the other hand, moving, it worked very well.

This year’s fair is expected to continue this trend, with a blend of centralized activities and mobile events designed to maximize community participation.Citizens are encouraged to support the project through donations to the IMCE, ensuring the continued success of this vital initiative.
The Importance of Literacy and Book Fairs
Events like the Coahuila International Book Fair and the torreón Children’s and Youth Book Fair play a crucial role in promoting literacy and a love of reading. According to a 2024 report by the National Literacy Trust, children who enjoy reading are more likely to succeed academically and develop strong critical thinking skills. Book fairs provide access to a wide range of books, create a festive atmosphere around reading, and offer opportunities for children to meet authors and illustrators.
Furthermore, these events contribute to the local economy by supporting publishers, booksellers, and related businesses. They also enhance the cultural vibrancy of the community, fostering a sense of shared identity and intellectual curiosity.
