YouTube Hiatus Explained: More than Just a Break

Popular comedic duo and married couple, Son Min-soo and im Lara, known online as the “Enjoy couple,” recently addressed their extended absence from YouTube. Dispelling rumors of marital discord, they revealed the real reason behind their silence: a challenging journey too conceive.

The Emotional Toll of trying to conceive

The couple explained that they had been diligently trying to start a family, dedicating important time and effort to the process. “We worked hard and prepared for a child in earnest, but it was not as easy as I thought,” Son Min-soo stated. Im Lara elaborated on the physical and emotional challenges, noting that her premenstrual syndrome (PMS) symptoms were notably severe. This aligns with studies showing that the stress of infertility can exacerbate PMS symptoms in many women.

In the process of preparing for pregnancy, women are often harder, so Minsu wanted to understand, but I didn’t see it.

The pressure to conceive also strained their relationship. Im Lara recounted, “I fought the most severely in 12 years of history,” highlighting the emotional toll that infertility can take on couples. According to a 2024 study by the American Psychological Association, couples experiencing infertility report significantly higher levels of stress, anxiety, and depression.

Turning to IVF: A New Chapter

After six months of unsuccessful attempts to conceive naturally, the couple decided to explore In Vitro Fertilization (IVF). Im Lara shared that positive experiences from friends who had undergone IVF influenced their decision. “My friends who had a test tube around were good. I heard a lot of good stories.”

IVF is a complex series of procedures used to help with fertility or prevent genetic problems and assist with the conception of a child.During IVF, mature eggs are collected (retrieved) from ovaries and fertilized by sperm in a lab. Then the fertilized egg (embryo) or eggs are implanted in a uterus. One full cycle of IVF takes about three weeks. According to the CDC, in 2022, approximately 2.3% of all infants born in the United States were conceived using assisted reproductive technology (ART), primarily IVF.

Finding Happiness amidst the Struggle

im Lara emphasized the importance of maintaining happiness throughout the process, stating, “Marriage is right, I have to be happy to have a baby.” This sentiment reflects a growing awareness of the need for emotional well-being during fertility treatments. Many fertility clinics now offer counseling and support services to help couples navigate the emotional challenges of infertility.
