Engineering Cup is a new tradition for first -year students of the Polytechnic. For the first time, the competition took place last year. Then the transitional cup and the opportunity to go to Moscow for the real Ostankino tower was received by a team of students of engineering school of information technology and robotics.
This year, the Cup will gather more than 1,900 freshmen from all engineering schools of the university. The first week of September was devoted to preparations for competitions. For polytechnics, lectures and practical master classes on engineering thinking, solving inventive problems were held.
Today, the teams have to demonstrate their engineering solutions. In the first stage, students in groups of seven people will need to build a tower of wooden ships and plasticine. This is an environmentally friendly material with similar characteristics with real building materials. For construction, teams are allocated for one hour.
Then the expert jury from among the teachers of engineering schools of the university will appreciate the height of the buildings and their stability. The towers corresponding to these criteria will go to the semifinals. In the next stage, freshmen with their towers in their hands will need to run 30 meters to speed.
Teams that scored the largest number of points in the sum of two stages will take the final, and in the calculation formula the emphasis will be made to the tower height. In the final stage of the competition, the finalist tower will evaluate the originality and quality of the assembly.
Among the innovations of this year – students will be able to decorate their towers. The main condition is that the decor should not affect the design and strength.
The winners are waiting for a passing goblet and a trip to Moscow, to the Ostankino TV tower.
