The Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD) has released a statement marking Africa Day 2025,joining the African Union,its Member States,and Africans everywhere in celebrating the anniversary of the Organisation of African Unity’s founding on May 25,1963.
This year’s theme, “Revisiting Our History, Shaping Our Future,” encourages reflection on the past and a renewed dedication to unity, justice, and shared advancement. IGAD has voiced its support for the AU’s concentration on reparative justice for Africans and people of African descent, viewing it as a crucial move toward correcting past wrongs and fostering fair societies.
On this occasion, IGAD reaffirms its commitment to:
- Regional integration and economic cooperation
- Peace and stability in the Horn of Africa
- Social and climate justice
- African-led processes of healing and reparation
IGAD is urging all stakeholders-governments, civil organizations, young people, and the diaspora-to collaborate in building a fair, unified, and robust Africa.
