Frankfurt is expecting a dangerous, slippery night. What will happen in the next few hours – and who needs to be particularly careful.

The German Weather Service (DWD) warned on Sunday evening about the weather situation in the Frankfurt city area: Drivers and pedestrians must prepare for wintry road conditions. The situation is particularly critical until 11 p.m. Until then, there is an increased risk of black ice due to freezing rain.

The authorities recommend avoiding unnecessary journeys and being particularly careful when making unavoidable journeys in traffic. It is said that delays and disruptions in traffic must be expected.

In the afternoon there was light snowfall in Frankfurt, which, according to the DWD, is expected to last until 3 a.m. Monday morning. Amounts of fresh snow between one and five centimeters are expected. It spreads smoothly.

Road users should adapt their driving behavior to winter conditions and possible visibility restrictions. There is also a frost warning for the Hesse metropolis: temperatures between 0 and minus 5 degrees Celsius are expected from Sunday afternoon to 7 a.m. on Monday morning.

At the start of the week, the thermometer still shows a mild maximum of 5 to 6 degrees. Nighttime temperatures are around freezing point, sometimes just below. Slightly sub-zero temperatures are expected, especially on Wednesday night.

Towards the middle of the week, the daily highs temporarily drop to 3 to 4 degrees before it becomes a little milder again from Thursday. The first weekend in December brings a slight warming with highs of around 8 degrees, but at night it remains cool at around 5 degrees.
