Austin Police release Photos of Detained Protesters Amidst National Unrest

The Austin Police Department (APD) has released images of eight individuals taken into custody following violent demonstrations against the Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE).
The arrests followed disturbances that began in Los Angeles on June 7, where protests against recent ICE raids escalated into violence. Agitators reportedly burned vehicles, hurled objects and fireworks at law enforcement, damaged property, blocked roadways, and resisted arrest throughout the weekend.
The unrest in Los Angeles has since spread to other major cities across the country, with authorities preparing for further demonstrations and potential violence.
Following Monday’s protests in austin, Texas, the APD stated that it “is committed to openness and public safety and is sharing details about events, wounded agents, arrests and preparations for the next few days.”
“The APD fully supports the constitutional right to the peaceful protest and values the civic commitment. However, the illegal actions that endanger the community or the agents will not be tolerated, and these incidents will be addressed,” the APD said in a press release.
The Austin exhibition began at the Texas Capitol on Monday night, which was closed at the time. Protesters then moved through downtown Austin and gathered at the JJ Pickle Federal Building, “where some individuals began to paint the property,” according to the APD.
Texas Governor Deploys National Guard Amid Protests
In response to the escalating protests, Texas Governor Greg Abbott announced the deployment of National Guard troops throughout the state on Wednesday.
“The state of Texas is prepared to deploy all the personnel and resources necessary to maintain the law and order throughout our state,” stated abbott’s press secretary, Andrew Mahaleris, earlier this week. “the soldiers of the National Guard Texas are waiting in the areas where mass demonstrations are expected in case they are necessary.”
