Daegu Metropolitan City is bolstering it’s commitment to shooting sports by welcoming Ban Hyo-jin, a celebrated local athlete and gold medalist at the 2024 Paris Olympics, to the Daegu Public facility Management Corporation’s shooting team. This strategic recruitment underscores Daegu’s ambition to solidify its position as a leading hub for shooting sports in South Korea and on the global stage.
Ban Hyo-jin: A Rising Star Joins the Ranks
Ban Hyo-jin, currently a standout third-year student at Daegu Sports High School, has already etched her name in Korean Olympic history. Her gold medal victory in Paris marked the 100th gold for South Korea in the Summer olympics, a testament to her exceptional talent and dedication. Further demonstrating her prowess, Ban Hyo-jin set a new record in the women’s high school 10m air rifle competition at the 47th Chungmugi National High School Shooting Competition held in March.
The recruitment process was initiated following Ban Hyojin’s expressed desire to continue her shooting career in Daegu, leading the Daegu Public Facility Management Corporation to extend an offer. She is expected to formally join the team in February 2026, after graduating from high school, with an initial contract spanning three years.
Investing in Infrastructure and talent Growth
This recruitment is part of a broader strategy to elevate Daegu’s shooting sports program. The daegu Public facilities Management corporation’s shooting team, previously focused on sports guns and pistols, will now expand its air rifle division, adding a coach and three athletes, including Ban Hyo-jin. This investment in talent is complemented by the Daegu International Shooting Facility Improvement Project, aimed at creating world-class facilities that meet international standards.
This project is crucial for Daegu’s ambition to host the 2027 World Shooting Championship,further cementing its reputation as “K-Shooting Sports City,Daegu.” Hosting such a prestigious event coudl bring meaningful economic benefits and international recognition to the city.Such as, the 2023 UCI Cycling World Championships in Glasgow generated an estimated £67 million in direct economic impact.
