Houston School Shooting: Student Injured After Bus Stop Attack

The Scarborough High School student who was shot in the leg is expected to survive. Police say a suspect was taken into custody.

HOUSTON — A high school student was shot Thursday afternoon after getting off a school bus in northwest Houston, according to HISD. Police say a suspect was taken into custody.

The shooting happened near Benbrook Elementary School, where the bus had stopped around dismissal time. District officials say the student, who goes Scarborough High School, was shot by a fellow student after getting off the bus.  According to police, the student’s injuries are not life-threatening.

The victim was taken to a nearby hospital with a gunshot wound to the leg. No one on the bus was injured.

During the investigation, Benbrook Elementary was placed on lockdown while an after-school program was in progress.

At a little after 7 p.m., Houston police posted on X that a suspect had been taken into custody at a nearby home.
