Hori Brings Its Officially Licensed Steam Controller to US Gamers
Hori is officially bringing its highly anticipated Steam controller to the US market, ending the long wait for players eager to experience this unique gamepad. Preorders are already open, with a release date set for December 16th, 2023, priced at $60.
This controller was originally launched in Japan back in October, and now US gamers can finally get their hands on it.
Features Designed for Steam Gamers
Hori’s Steam controller boasts several features tailored for the Steam platform, including:
-
A dedicated button for quickly accessing the Steam menu. This button provides direct access to your library, friends list, settings, and more without interrupting your gameplay.
- Motion controls utilizing touch sensors on the joysticks. This allows for a more interactive gaming experience, particularly for titles that support motion controls.
- Mappable back buttons offer increased customization and comfort. Ensure convenience and quick access to important commands by assigning functions to the back buttons.
Connectivity & Battery Life
The controller connects seamlessly to your computer or Steam Deck via Bluetooth, with a USB-A Bluetooth receiver included for added versatility. Hori claims a generous 12-hour battery life on a single charge, with the option to continue playing while charging.
Some Notable Missing Features
While its features are enticing, the controller does lack rumble functionality, a trackpad, and a headphone jack. These omissions may be a dealbreaker for some gamers, depending on their preferences.
A Strong Alternative in the Controller Market
Despite the missing features, Hori has a reputation for producing quality controllers, and its Steam controller looks like a solid option for those seeking a robust and affordable way to expand their Steam experience. Compared to Valve’s discontinued Steam Controller, which allowed for extensive customization but was more complex, Hori’s version appears to offer a more user-friendly approach.
