[위키트리 광주전남취재본부 노해섭 기자]On November 13, Honam University‘s Non-curricular Integration Support Center (Director Jwa Hyun-sook) held the second lecture on the basics of training and behavior for volunteering abandoned animals in the ‘Pet Harmony’ program to promote emotional stability and respect for life among current students.

In this lecture, education was provided on ▲causes of abandoned animals, ▲etiquette when volunteering, and ▲basic behavior for training abandoned animals.

Hyunjun Moon (3rd year), an emergency rescue student who participated in the program, said, “Through this program, I felt that pets are not just companion animals, but living creatures that need to be communicated with and understood together,” and added, “I want to put what I learned into practice in my future volunteer work.”

‘Pet Harmony’ is a program designed to provide opportunities for emotional healing and stress relief to students who are tired from school and daily life through interaction with companion animals, and to spread the value of respect for life and proper companion animal culture by encouraging students to participate in actual volunteer work for abandoned animals.

Pet training experts are scheduled to participate in future volunteer activities at Angel’s House in Naju on November 23rd and Animal Hill in Damyang on November 30th.

Jwa Hyun-sook, head of the Extracurricular Integrated Support Center, said, “Pet Harmony is meaningful not only as an extracurricular program that not only provides volunteer experience with abandoned animals, but also helps students improve their emotional stability and empathy,” and added, “We will continue to expand healing programs in which students can participate and learn.”

Meanwhile, Honam University operates a variety of extracurricular activities such as strengthening student capabilities, career exploration, and emotional support through the HELP-7Star extracurricular program, and is taking the lead in creating a happy student-centered university culture.
