From Vegetable Packing to Cosplay Dreams

Balancing her passion with everyday life, Yun works at her family’s greengrocer in Hokkaido, packing vegetables to make a living. Despite the distance and challenges, she made the journey to Tokyo for AnimeJapan, driven by her love for anime and cosplay. “I want to move to Tokyo someday,” she expressed, highlighting her ambition to immerse herself further in the vibrant anime community.

The Allure of Cosplay: Expressing a Two-Dimensional Ideal

Yun’s cosplay journey began about four or five years ago when she worked at a maid cafe that hosted cosplay events. It was there that she discovered the joy of transforming into her favorite characters. “I’ve always loved anime and games, and I had a longing for ‘I want to be two-dimensional!'” she explained. “So when I found out there was a culture where I could express my favorite characters myself, I was really excited.”

Crafting the Character: Attention to Detail

When asked about her cosplay of a character from Genshin Impact, Yun emphasized her love for tsundere characters and the unique appeal of the character’s personality and backstory. She also highlighted the importance of details in her costume, such as the “divine Eye” and other intricate accessories. “Genshin Impact costumes are luxurious with accessories and parts, so it’s a lot of fun to make,” she noted.

Future Cosplay Aspirations

Looking ahead, Yun expressed her desire to create more Genshin Impact cosplays, notably focusing on characters whose wigs she can style herself. She also shared her vision of cosplaying as Yoimiya-chan during the summer, with fireworks in the background, creating a stunning visual portrayal of the character.
