There will not be a new episode of the second season of tonight High
Potentialand there’s a good reason for that. ABC’s hit 2024-2025 series returns to continue the story of Morgan, a highly intelligent individual who finds a way to work with the LAPD’s Major Crimes Unit. Now that Kaitlin Olson’s character has settled into her new team, she faces new challenges, especially as the investigation into the disappearance of her ex-husband, Roman, progresses.
High Potential – season 1 ended with a major breakthrough in Roman’s case. Since then, Morgan, Karadec and the others have taken on several cases, continuing to work on the unsolved mystery. The arrival of Captain Nick Wagner has posed some additional challenges, but it’s still unclear whether he’s an ally or not.
Like last season, High Potential season 2 episode 7, titled “The One That Got Away,” also ended with a case still unsolved, heightening interest in what will happen next. Unfortunately, it will still take some time for this to happen.
Why they won’t air a new episode of the second season of High Potential
Because its season started a little earlier than other television series in the 2024-2025 television schedule, High Potential’s second season has already wrapped up the first half of its current schedule, making “The One That Got Away” its fall finale. This means that the procedural series has officially gone on hiatus, which will last several weeks.
In its place, ABC will air an entirely different show tonight in High Potential’s season two timeslot. Step Into… The Movies
With Derek and Julianne Hough will fill the hour, described as
“A stellar cast pays homage to dance moments in films.” Beyond that, it’s unclear what the network has planned, but reruns of the series usually air during the hiatus.
This allows fans who have not seen the new season of the series to catch up on the program. Sure, all episodes of High Potential are available for streaming on Hulu, but simply rerunning the series in its usual timeslot makes it accessible to a wider audience.
When will High Potential season 2 episode 8 air and what will it be about
The good news is that the second season of High Potential has already been confirmed for January 6, 2026. Its midseason premiere, however, also marks a change in its timeslot, as it slides to an earlier time of 9 PM ET. It will be inserted between the fourth season of Will Trent at 8pm ET and the eighth season of
The
Rookie 10:00 p.m. ET.
At this point, there is still no official title, nor even a synopsis for episode 8 of the second season of High Potential. However, the new trailer confirms that the episode will essentially continue the hunt for the stolen painting from Episode 7. Morgan is forced to make the decision to pin the crime on Rhys Eastman, the so-called “art recovery expert.”
