Hide Google Ads: New Search Results Option

Google is preparing to increase the visibility of advertisements within its search results, but with a trade-off: the addition of a button to hide the insert devoted to advertisements. The search engine, which announced this change on Tuesday October 13 in a blog post, indicates that these interface changes will be noticeable on mobile and also desktop, with as always a gradual deployment around the world.

In practice, what will the changes be? The Google results page now individually identifies “ sponsored links » which are therefore paid advertisements, through which advertisers purchase the right to appear above addresses referenced in a natural way.

Tomorrow, these advertisements will be grouped into a single block of “ sponsored results », identified by a larger size label. on mobile, it will stay at the top of the screen while the user has scrolled through the advertising area, before disappearing when they arrive at the natural results.

Depending on the requests, this advertising area can be displayed either above or after the “ AI-generated insights » related to the AI Overviews feature.

Google also announces the introduction of a “Hide sponsored results” option. It takes the form of a dedicated button, which should therefore make it possible to reduce the area dedicated to these advertisements.

« In our testing,we found that the new design makes it easier to navigate at the top of the page. Ad size remains unchanged and you will never see more than four text ads per group », Google Traffic.
